CHESTERTON, Ill.(STMW) - The body of a woman was discovered Friday morning about a mile east of the Indiana Dunes State Park pavilion, Porter County (Ind.) Coroner Chuck Harris said.

The woman, who appears to be middle-aged, washed up on shore, he said. Around 8:30 a.m., a man walking along the shore found the woman’s body and contacted police, according to Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officer Gene Davis.

A large degree of decomposition had taken place, Harris said. The woman was clothed and she had several tattoos.

Harris said a Friday autopsy revealed findings that were consistent with a drowning, and the body showed no signs of foul play.

Harris said officials think they know who the woman is but are not releasing her names until they can confirm it. He said the Indianapolis Metro Police Department is in communication with the possible family members of the woman.
