Cat Shot, Wounded With BB Gun In Elgin

ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) — Elgin police are searching for someone who shot and wounded a Siamese cat with a BB gun over the weekend.

The owner of a flame-point Siamese cat named Sweet Potato said he let her out of his home in the 800 block of Oak Street in Elgin at 6 p.m. Saturday.

An hour later, the cat came back, acting ill, the owner told police. He took the cat to the Dundee Animal Hospital in East Dundee, where a veterinarian took an X-ray and discovered the cat had a BB pellet in her abdomen.

The animal’s condition on Monday was unavailable.

Sweet Potato’s owner told police a vacant home in the neighborhood has BB holes in its windows, and that a neighbor has been seen target-shooting with BBs in a neighbor’s backyard.

The Elgin Courier-News contributed to this report, via the Sun-Times Media Wire.

Maybe it’s time to check out the neighbor and his BB gun. If he has been witnessed shooting at anything other than a target, take his gun away and arrest him. If these BBs can be linked to his gun, he should pay ALL the medical bills for the cat and damage to the vacant house as well. Some people should NOT have BB guns.
