CHICAGO (CBS) — Fans will feel the warm thrill of confusion and that space cadet glow in the Friendly Confines next summer, courtesy of none other than Roger Waters himself.

Concert promoter Live Nation announced Tuesday morning that Waters will bring his tour of the classic Pink Floyd opus “The Wall” to Wrigley Field on June 8, 2012. Tickets go on sale on Monday, Nov. 7.

“The Wall” was released as a double album in 1979, telling the disturbing story of a character named Pink as he spirals into alienation and insanity. Pink Floyd – then composed of Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and the late Rick Wright – performed the album in a concert tour in 1980 and 1981.

But the original tour did not include Chicago. Concerts were held only in New York; Los Angeles; London; and Dortmund, Germany.

More recently, Waters has begun a new tour of “The Wall,” which made a stop in September 2010 at the United Center.

In a late September article, Waters told Rolling Stone Magazine that he planned to stage “The Wall” as an outdoor show for the first time last year, and had conducted light tests at Wrigley Field, as well as Fenway Park in Boston and Yankee Stadium in New York “just to see what the ambient light is like.”

While stops in Boston and New York are planned, Fenway and Yankee stadiums are not yet listed as the venues. But shows are confirmed at numerous other outdoor stadiums in the U.S. and Canada.

Waters tells Rolling Stone he wants to base the tour next year “around Saturday nights in baseball stadiums.”

Before last year, “The Wall” was too large a show to consider a multi-city tour, but advances in technology have changed that, Live Nation said. The promoter says Waters has updated the look and feel of the production, so that it matches up to the “theatrical extravaganza” that has defined “The Wall” tour for more than 30 years.

Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985, and Gilmour, Wright and Mason went on using the band name without him for more than a decade afterward. All four members reunited for the “Live 8” charity concert in 2005, and Gilmour and Mason appeared with Waters earlier this year for one of “The Wall” concerts at the O2 Arena in London.

On his tour next, Waters will be accompanied by an ensemble of well-known performers, including Snowy White of Thin Lizzy fame on guitar; former Hall and Oates guitarist and “Saturday Night Live” bandleader G.E. Smith on guitar and bass; Waters’ son, Harry, on Hammond organ; and Pat, Mark and Kipp Lennon of the band Venice (no relation to John Lennon, in case you were wondering) on backing vocals.

This past summer, thousands crowded the stands and bleachers at Wrigley Field – and the sidewalks surrounding the ballpark – for two concerts by Paul McCartney.

The Cubs ballpark hosted its first concert, by Jimmy Buffett, in 2005. It was followed in subsequent years by the Police, Elton John and Billy Joel, Rascal Flatts, and the Dave Matthews Band.

  • A Nice Pair

No Dont Go. Dave Gilmore and the other memebrs are much more worth going to see. Remember The “Wall” was meant for the band to be behind it and the crowd on other side. Roger Waters hates people in general thus the wall. the other members never understood nor wanted the wall …. he does not mind raking in your cash when he in need…… nope. F_ck Off Roger -
