Stone: Don't Count Francona Out

(WSCR) Cubs new President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein has made it clear he likes hiring people he's worked with before.

With Mike Quade out as manager, the search for Epstein's first manager in Chicago begins.

So could Epstein bring in the manager he won two World Series with in Boston -- Terry Francona?

"That's a name that hasn't gotten a whole lot of play," The Score's baseball expert Steve Stone told The Mully and Hanley Show. "Sometimes we go back to guys who we are very familiar and very comfortable with when we look for major hires. Look no further than Jed Hoyer. You can never count Terry Francona out of this process.

"I think they could probably do a lot worse (than Francona). If they want to start from the beginning however, and bring in a brand new culture, they then will look in a different area. Terry does have that background. He has two world championships. He's handled big personalities in a pressure cooker. He would be a guy that, I think, they're eventually going to consider."
