By: David Schuster
Pete Mackanin equated his interview with the Cubs brass like being put through a grinder. Mackinan, currently with the Phillies organization, said the interview reallys started over dinner on Thursday and continued through late afternoon Friday.
Theo Epstein and crew repeatedly brought up different baseball scenarios to see how Mackinan would handle them. They also closely watched how he handled the media during a 30 minute press conference.
Mackanin is a baseball lifer who has served just about every job imaginable in the game. He's 60 years old and has already interviewed for the vacant managerial job in Boston.
Mackanin may have been the first to be interviewed but he certainly wont be the last as four or five candidates are expected to go through the grueling process.
Next up is Dale Sveum (curently the Brewer's bench coachHe is scheduled to be interviewed on Monday with Mike Maddux (Ranger's pitching coach) likely to get an audience later next week.
