(WSCR) As if the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse allegations couldn’t get any worse, they potentially just took a devastating turn.

Sportswriter Mark Madden of 105.9 The X in Pittsburgh joined The Mully and Hanley Show on Thursday and claimed that Sandusky had pimped out young boys from his charity to rich donors.

“It’s going to get worse before it gets better,” Madden said. “The one thing I hear is being investigated right now, and I hasten to add this as only a rumor, but I know of at least two prominent columnists who are investigating the story, is that The Second Mile, and there’s no nice way to say this, pimped out young boys to wealthy donors.”

It should be stressed that this is just a rumor, but Madden does have credibility on the subject. He first exposed the Sandusky investigation last April in the Beaver County Times and essentially nailed the alleged cover-up revealed in the grand jury report released last Saturday. But again, remember, this is simply a rumor at this point.

Madden also said that the reason Sandusky was forced out of Penn State in 1999 was to hide the sexual abuse scandals.

“My theory is that when Sandusky retired, far too young at 55, and never got another coaching job, which means a lot of people had passing knowledge of this. I mean think about it, [he was] never even contacted about another coaching job, although I think Virginia at one point might have talked to Sandusky. Here’s a guy who was a so-called coaching legend who retired at 55 and was allowed to retire at 55, so I think he retired, again my theory, he retired in exchange for silence. Penn State said, ‘We know about this, we gotta get you out of here. Stay away, we’ll cover for you.’ And if you look at the timeline of everything, that makes sense, except Sandusky didn’t live up to his part of the bargain because he stuck around Penn State,” he said.

Madden also said he doesn’t believe charges will or should be brought against Paterno, but that it is possible he could be facing penalties of a civil suit.

“There’s no such thing as ‘should he’ with prosecuting. He’s either criminally responsible or he isn’t. Everything I’ve read leads me to believe no. Could he be hit up for a lot of bucks in a civil suit? Yes, and I’m sure he will be,” he said.

…but ONLY if they were Catholic.

Raise your hand if you would be happy to see the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania shut down the entirety of Penn State. That place is rotten to its core.

    • Mark, Sterling

THAT’S a stretch. This isn’t the student’s fault. Or the teacher’s. This is the football program, and the people in the “big offices”. Some of whom have already been removed, and more will be coming. But you can’t blame the ENTIRE University.

      • Meatless Meatball

I think I can. When the leaders of my religion perpetrated a cover-up of child rapists, I believed (as I still do) that they should dismantle the entire hierarchical structure and reassemble it in order to get the rot out. They didn’t, and to this day, the Catholic Church is still bungling sex abuse cases (see the recent debacle in, of all places, Ireland).

Just as I’ve known good priests throughout my life, as well as good laypeople who work for the Church, I know good people who go and have gone to Penn State. My heart goes out to them, because it truly isn’t their fault. But the rot in this university needs to be rooted out before PSU can legitimately move forward.

This isn’t a problem simply with the football program, Mark; it’s a problem with the entirety of Penn State University, which is quite obviously far too dominated by said football program. The school either needs to close, or it needs to clean house of every single person in power, both in the football program and in the administration. That’s pie-in-the-sky logic, I know, and it doesn’t stand a chance of happening. But just as the Church deserves blame for harboring child rapists, and just as there are good people in the Church who get undeservedly tarred, so too is Penn State. The only way to clean it up is to blow up (figuratively, obviously; I would NEVER condone violence… well, except the castration of Sandusky) the way it’s currently arranged and put something new in its place.

      Hand in the air.

I have been waiting for someone else to say this. Penn State needs to lose its accreditation and all the money should be given to those boys who was molested.

  • jonathan

The football program should be shut down for a time, and the Justice Department, the Department of Education, and the NCAA should come down with a heavy hand and reaffirm that colleges and universities are institutions of higher learning in which football ALWAYS takes a backseat to education.

    • Deidre Harris

Man I glad it wasn’t my son. He should be a register sex offender after this I totally agree shut it down

  • Mary

He stuck around because as part of his exit package he negotiated the keys and 7/24 access to his location of choice for molesting boys: the Penn State locker room. Even since after his 1999 retirement he has been bringing boys from his charity to that locker room with full knowledge of even the janitors. He was banned from bringing them in 2002, but it was not enforced. The guy must have some serious dirt on Paterno and the others to be able to wield that kind of power.

Absolute power corrupts. The reason Joepa is still around is because nobody had the balls to tell him the truth; he should have retired at least 10 years ago. So everybody is waiting around and hope he dies soon. Anytime you hang around longer than usual, the end result is usually not good. Ask Gaddafy and Saddam.

At the very best, he has been an average coach in the last 15 years – look at the record. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
