Valparaiso Shop Gives Free Gowns To Soldiers And Their Brides

VALPARAISO, Ind. (CBS) -- A Valparaiso bridal boutique is taking part in a national program to give military brides free designer wedding dresses.

As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, some military brides-to-be and their maids of honor spent a very cold night camped out at Here Comes the Dress.

But one bride of a soldier said it was worth it.

"It was pretty cold, but it's all right," she said.

Another woman said the offer was too exciting to pass up.

"When I read about it on Facebook, I was like, are you sure?" she said.

Jessica Merkouris is one of the owners of the bridal boutique.

"We are here, and we really want to help people in the military, because what they give to us and to the United States and everything is just amazing, and we just want to give back," she said.

Operation Wedding Gown runs Thursday and Friday, or until all 60 or so gowns are gone.

Here Comes the Dress is located at 3907 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso, and can be reached at (219) 728-1328.
