(WSCR) Ron Zook may not like it, but he can’t avoid hearing questions about his future.

That doesn’t mean he can’t run away from them though.

Before the start of his weekly press conference, the Illinois head football coach warned the media that he was there to talk about the team, and any questions asked about his contract status — or the reports that he will be fired — would not be met kindly.

In fact, Zook said he would end the conference if any questions were asked about his status.

So when the Chicago Tribune’s Shannon Ryan asked him if he had to talk to his players about the rumors to avoid it becoming a distraction, Zook said, “You just couldn’t let it go, Shannon, could you?”

And then he walked out.

You can find the video of exchange here.

Zook can run, but he cant hide! His record at Illinois is dismal and it is past time that he be replaced. We need a coach that can ID problems, recruit and come up with viable solutions that well put Illinois in contention.

The problem is, Zook IS a good recruiter. Illinois has been “competetive”, they just haven’t been organized enough to win. That falls on coaches. Talent is there, they just need someone who ISN’T a cheerleader, but someone who can coach a football game.

As an American, Coach has the right to be a football cementhead, petulant little poopie…or both.

The other Big Ten schools are going to miss Zook.
