MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. (STMW) - A northwest suburban woman was charged with aggravated battery to a child after her infant boy was taken to an area hospital with a broken leg.

Veronica Perez, 33, of the 900 block of North Wheeling Road was ordered held on $30,000 bond on Wednesday after being charged with the felony count, a release from Mount Prospect police said.

On Monday, police were contacted by Advocate Lutheran General Hospital personnel after an infant boy was brought to the emergency room by his parents.

Investigators responded and learned a six-week-old boy sustained a fracture to his left femur. The emergency room physician said the fracture was consistent with possible physical abuse.

When Perez was interviewed by police, she told them she caused the injury deliberately.

Perez will appear for a preliminary hearing Dec. 2, at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.

At the very least the child will not have a conscious memory of the injury. I hope he will be given to people who will love him and care for him properly. so he can leave the demons well behind him. We should be thankful that nothing worse happened. From the sound if it, the outcome could have been much worse. May the punishment to the mother properly fit the crime.
