At Least 10 Wounded In Citywide Violence

CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least 10 people were wounded by gunfire throughout the city between Saturday afternoon and early Sunday -- one day after a man was killed and a lest seven others wounded by gunfire.

The violence started about 1:20 p.m. Saturday when three men in their 20s were shot near East 57th Street and South Calumet Avenue, according to police, who said the shooting may have been a drive-by and say appears to be gang-related.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and a 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

About an hour later, a 22-year-old man was shot in the face in the 600 block of West 111th Street and taken in an unidentified condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

About 6:30 p.m. Saturday, a 14-year-old boy was wounded during an apparent gang-related shooting in the 5200 block of South Trumbull Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The boy was shot in the abdomen area and initially taken to Holy Cross Hospital, but later transferred in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

About 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man standing in the 6700 block of South Normal Boulevard were wounded when a male walked up and opened fire, police said. The teen was shot in the leg and the man in the elbow and upper body. Both were listed in "stable" condition at Stroger Hospital.

About 11:15 p.m. Saturday, a 20-year-old man walking in the 7800 block of South Morgan Street was shot in the foot and taken in good condition to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, police said.

About 2 a.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in the lower back during an argument in the 1600 block of West 59th Street, Greer said. The man was hospitalized in serious condition at Stroger Hospital and the gunman was taken into custody.

At 5:18 a.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 5700 block of South Sacramento Avenue and taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

Between Friday night and Saturday morning, one man was killed and at least seven others wounded in citywide violence -- bringing the weekend total to one dead and at least 17 others wounded by gunfire between Friday night and early Sunday.
