Man Killed When Train Hits Minivan In Hobart

HOBART, Ind. (CBS) — A man was killed Monday afternoon when a freight train struck a minivan at a crossing in northwest Indiana.

It happened at 1:24 p.m. at the Main Street crossing between 4th and 5th streets in Hobart, Ind.

Authorities said that, based on a preliminary investigation, it appears the gates were working at the time of the accident.

Witnesses said a minivan pulled around a dump truck, went around the railroad gates and was struck by a freight train.
