(CBS) The Bears will sign Jake Laptad to handle long snapping duties for the injured Patrick Mannelly, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Laptad spent time with the Bears during training camp and was the long snapper in the team’s final preseason game against the Browns.
Mannelly, a captain, tore his ACL in Sunday’s 31-20 win over the Chargers and was placed on injured reserve Monday.
The Bears still have one roster spot available after waiving defensive end Mario Addison Monday. They are expected to sign a veteran backup quarterback with Jay Cutler shelved with thumb injury.
