Suit: Hospital Employee Raped Female Patient

CHICAGO (STMW) - A woman is suing a northwest suburban hospital after an employee allegedly raped her while she was patient there in the summer of 2010.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in the Circuit Court of Cook County names Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, its parent company, Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation, and the employee, Nino A. Donis. Donis was convicted of the crime in criminal court, the suit said.

The woman was an inpatient at the hospital when Donis, dressed in his hospital uniform, entered her room and said he was there to perform a physical examination of her, the suit said. He then raped her.

The suit claims that at least one other hospital employee was aware of similar attacks committed by Donis but took no action to stop him. It also said the attack has caused the woman physical and emotional pain and has caused her to lose employment opportunities and income.

The three-count suit accuses Advocate Health of negligence and both Advocate Health and Donis of negligent infliction of emotional distress and willful and wanton conduct.

It seeks more than $50,000 in damages.

A spokesperson for Advocate Health could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.
