CHICAGO (CBS) – A 34-year-old Chicago man has been charged with killing his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son and the boy’s mother has been charged with child endangerment and concealing a homicide in her son’s death.

Cesar Ruiz, of the 5100 block of South Trumbull Avenue, has been charged with first-degree murder and concealing a homicide in the death of Christopher Valdez on Friday, police said.

His girlfriend, Crystal Valdez, 28, also of the 5100 block of South Trumbull Avenue, was charged with endangering the life of a child and concealing a homicide, police said.

Christopher died on his fourth birthday on Friday afternoon in what police described as a “possible domestic situation,” at Christopher’s home in the 5100 block of South Trumbull Avenue.

An autopsy on Saturday determined he died from multiple blunt force injuries and child abuse, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police have yet to reveal details of Christopher’s death, other than to say he was dead when police officers arrived at the boy’s home on Friday.

I am glad to see the mother was charged as well. The family is fooling themselves if they think she is innocent. She chose to remain in a relationship with a man she knew was violent and she chose to have that man around her child. She failed to protect her child in every way.

Earlier comments from the family indicated that they knew about the abuse and violence and yet they did nothing. They are guilty, too, but they will remain free and have to live with the consequences of their inaction. The death penalty should NEVER have been eliminated. Maybe our next Governor will reverse this stupid decision and we won’t have to support killers for the rest of their lives with all the perks of being in jail. We can only hope. . .

All this makes me wonder what he did to her children before the murder? Subserviant women with no self-esteem attract jerks like that.

As for the family knowing, yes, they should have called DCFS if they felt it was none of their business.

I’ve called the police on men and women who beat their kids in parking lots, at the park, in stores, in cars, etc.—and I suggest all of you call 911 when you see that going on.

One woman came up to me and said it was none of my business if she slaps her child across the face 5 or 6 times. She wanted to “meet me out in the parking lot”. She got her a.s.s hauled away. I cried so bad for her adorable little boy. He did nothing wrong. No kid deserves any of that.

Darlene, You are one of a very elite group that cares enough to get involved. We need more people like you that aren’t afraid to say something or make a phone call to stop the insanity of abuse. Years ago children were spanked for misbehaving; but beating, burning, breaking their bones and other forms of abuse should NEVER be tolerated. I agree that this little boy was probably abused well before the murder and one phone call COULD have saved his life. Thank you for caring enough to get involved.

It’s probably a good idea to know what you are talking about before you bash innocent family members. The “mother” (I use the term loosely) had already been in trouble for abusing Christopher. CPS dropped the ball, as usual, by giving the useless b*tch her son back. The aunt and uncle became concerned for Christopher after getting a phone call from one of his neighbors. They called police to do a welfare check. No one in the home opened the door for officers. That’s when the aunt and uncle went to the home themselves. You see, they weren’t as negligent as you think. In fact, the uncle beat the hell out of the mother’s vaginal play thing while the aunt attempted CPR on the already expired youngster.

I am not a family member. I am just as angry as everyone posting here about the senseless death of Christopher. I’d like nothing more that to see these two swing for this, but it pays to know all the facts before you point the finger at family members who did all that they could and are suffering greatly.

Details have no been revealed in this case because prior to this man C. Ruiz being with this woman, she has an open case with DCFS for child abuse of her own children. I dont know what really happened but C. Valadez has been abusing her children long before she allowed this man into her life!!! She deserves to be beaten and left withoit food like she’s done to them!
