Peoria Shuts Out Wolves, 4-0

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Peoria goaltender Ben Bishop interrupted the Chicago Wolves hot streak Sunday night as he posted 28 saves in a 4-0 victory during an Illinois Lottery Cup game at Allstate Arena.

The Wolves hadn't been kept off the scoresheet since Jan. 15, 2011 --- a stretch of 52 games. Bishop (9-6-0) earned his third shutout of the year while Jonathan Cheechoo (G, A) and Derek Nesbitt (G, A) helped Peoria snap a four-game losing streak.

The Wolves (9-7-0-2) lost for just the second time in eight outings. Goaltender Matt Climie (6-3-0) saw his personal five-game winning streak come to a close despite making 27 saves.

"It was a disappointing effort all-around tonight," said Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish. "As good as we felt after the win last night, we feel the exact opposite today."

Peoria started the scoring at 1:29 of the second period on Jay Barriball's third goal against the Wolves in less than 24 hours. Derek Nesbitt fed him a pass across the slot and Barriball, waiting on Climie's doorstep, tapped the puck into an open net. T.J. Hensick, who shares the American Hockey League lead in points, also earned an assist on the play.

The Rivermen (10-10-1-1) went up 2-0 at the 7:09 mark of the second as Nesbitt became the beneficiary of a cross-ice pass. Working at the point, defenseman Lane Fairchild spied Nesbitt near the half boards to set up Nesbitt's seventh goal of the year.

The Rivermen struck again with 35 seconds left in the second period when Cheechoo fought for control of the puck in the corner, then fed a backhand pass to Phil McRae for a one-timer that became his 12th goal of the season. Cheechoo added a goal at 14:16 of the third period when he lifted a wrister over Climie's right shoulder.
