Grammy Nominations Announced At Live Concert

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Recording Academy announced nominations Wednesday night for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards, which airs Feb. 12 on CBS. The awards show will be broadcast from The Staples Center in downtown L.A.

Kanye West led the pack in total nominations with seven, followed closely by Adele, Foo Fighters, and Bruno Mars, each earning six nods. Lil Wayne and Skrillex are each nominated for five awards.

CBS presented a one-hour special, “GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!!,” which aired live to the east coast Wednesday from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE.

Performers included Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jason Aldean, Lupe Fiasco, Sugarland, The Band Perry, Common, Grandmaster Flash and Ludacris.

The taped show will air at 10 p.m. Wednesday night on CBS2.

The nominations concert special marked the fourth time nominations for the annual GRAMMY Awards were announced live on primetime television.

Nominees in the general field categories are:

Record Of The Year

  • “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele
  • “Grenade” by Bruno Mars
  • “Holocene” by Bon Iver
  • “The Cave” by Mumford & Sons
  • “Firework” by Katy Perry

Song Of The Year

  • “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele

  • “Holocene” by Bon Iver
  • “The Cave” by Mumford & Sons
  • “All of the Lights” by Kanye West

Best New Artist

  • Bon Iver

Album Of The Year

  • “21″ by Adele
  • “Wasting Light” by the Foo Fighters
  • “Born this Way” by Lady Gaga
  • “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” by Bruno Mars
  • “Loud” by Rihanna

The late Amy Winehouse garnered a nomination for pop duo/group performance for her duet with Tony Bennett, “Body and Soul.” Also nominated were “Dearest” by the Black Keys, “Paradise” by Coldplay, “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People, and “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera.

Among Kanye West’s nominations was a nod for best rap/sung collaboration for “All of the Lights,” with Rihanna, Kid Cudi, and Fergie. Other nominees in the category were “Party” by Beyonce and Andre 3000; “I’m On One” by DJ Kahled, Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne; “I Need a Doctor” by Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Skylar Grey; “What’s My Name?” by Rihanna and Drake; and “Motivation” by Kelly Rowland and Lil Wayne.

Country music sensation Taylor Swift earned a nomination for best country solo performance for “Mean.” She will be vying against Jason Aldean for “Dirt Road Anthem,” Martina McBride for “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” Blake Shelton for “Honey Bee,” and Carrie Underwood for “Mama’s Song.”

The number of Grammy categories was cut from 109 last year to 78 this year, as The Recording Academy looks to streamline the awards show.
