CHICAGO (CBS) — A man, described by police as an “armed habitual criminal,” has been charged for aiming a weapon at police officers.

Edward Buchanan, 21, of the 7700 block of South Morgan Street, was charged with aggravated assault to an officer, police said.

He was arrested about 11:15 a.m. after Gresham District officers saw a man with a gun in the 7800 block of South Morgan Street, police said.

As the officers approached, the suspect began to flee and allegedly aimed a gun at them.

One of the officers fired his weapon in the man’s direction, but did not strike him, police said.

Following a brief chase, the man was apprehended and the gun recovered.
