Report: Martz Likely Gone After Bears Season Ends

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Sun-Times is reporting Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz probably will leave the team after the current problematic season concludes.

The paper says it's "highly unlikely" Martz would return to the Bears in 2012, partly because of his desire to be a head football coach. The Bears have not offered Martz, a former St. Louis Rams coach, a long-term contract.

Martz had gotten mixed reviews for his Bears offense under Coach Lovie Smith, though Chicago's performance surged mid-season before quarterback Jay Cutler was sidelined with a broken thumb last month. Under backup quarterback Caleb Hanie, the Bears have lost their last two games.
