(CBS) The Cubs have made a bid for free agent slugger Albert Pujols, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

The report says the Cubs met with agent Dan Lozano Monday and “are believed to have made a qualifying bid.” Tuesday morning, the newspaper confirmed that an offer was indeed made.

According to the report, the Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals are still the front-runners to sign Pujols, but the Cubs are in the mix.
