Weber: Illini 'Don't Seem To Give In'

(WSCR) You may not believe it, but the Fighting Illini basketball team is 10-0.

The No.19 Illini will look to improve to 11-0 when they take on UNLV on Saturday at the United Center.

"It'll be a positive thing to be able to go to Chicago so the local talents and coaches and teams get a chance to see us up close and personal," head coach Bruce Weber told The Mully and Hanley Show. "The other thing is that you get to play in a venue that will prepare you for the NCAA (tournament). If you have that opportunity to play in a neutral-site venue like the United Center against a good, quality opponent, there are a lot of things that are positive about going there."

Coming into the 2011-12 season, expectations were low for Illinois, but with the addition of senior guard Sam Maniscalco, the Illini appear to be clicking.

"(Coming into the season,) there were a lot of unknowns," Weber said. "We have a lot of new guys -- seven new guys. Obviously Sammy Maniscalco has been just a really positive addition. We had no seniors, and now we have a senior point guard that has a lot of experience. That's the thing we were lacking -- experience.

"They have a competitive spirit. They don't seem to give in."
