Man Found Dead In Submerged Vehicle

KANKAKEE COUNTY, Ill. (STMW) - A man was found dead in a submerged, upside down vehicle that veered off the road in a construction zone near I-57 Wednesday.

State troopers responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash about 9:53 a.m. Wednesday, said an Illinois State Police release.

A concerned motorist saw the four-door vehicle offroad, upside down and submerged in water near the southbound I-57 at milepost 316 and called authorities. Southwest suburban Bourbonnais is the closest municipality to the crash site, which the release said was in a construction zone.

The Bourbonnais Fire Department was first on scene, the release said.

Michael L. Simms, 27, of Joliet was removed from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
