Loyola Of Chicago Rallies To Beat Canisius 59-45

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Ben Averkamp scored 22 points and Walt Gibler added 17 points and 12 rebounds as Loyola of Chicago rallied to defeat Canisius 59-45 on Thursday night for the Ramblers' fourth straight win.

Trailing by four, Loyola (5-7) used a 10-0 run in the second half to pull away.

The Ramblers hit all 13 of their free throws in the final 3:32 to finish 19 of 20 from the line.

In the first half, Loyola shot only 31 percent from the field (9 of 29) compared to 38.1 percent (8 of 21) for the Golden Griffins. The Ramblers led 20-18 at the break.

However, Loyola improved to 50 percent in the second half (11 of 22) while Canisius dropped to 27.8 percent (10 of 36).

The Golden Griffins (2-9), coming off a 90-80 overtime win against South Dakota, were led by Harold Washington and Gaby Belardo with 10 points apiece.
