Your Chicago: Darien Sportsplex

DARIEN, Ill. (CBS) – CBS 2's Rob Johnson usually explores "Your Chicago" based on viewer suggestions.

But in the latest installment, he introduces us to the Darien Sportsplex ice rink.

For his 6-year-old son, Jaden, and him, it's where the two can play hockey -- and bond.

"I like skating with you, and getting through you so I can score," Jaden tells his dad.

On occasion, Johnson will rent the rink and invite his son's friends and their dads for an informal adults-vs.-kids game.

Some are new to the game, like Ed Kepouras, who took up the game a year ago when his son Kyle started to play.

Others, like Jon Grzbek, have been playing their whole lives. Jon still coaches two teams, including Jaden's and his son Ryan's Chicago Hawks Mites team.

"What else as a parent can you pass along, other than your passions?" Grzbek says.

While the action continues on the ice, other non-playing moms and dads offer encouragement off it.

This isn't just a father-son experience. For Steve and Megan Sawatzky, it's father-daughter.

"You get a special bond between us, get that shared experience, and I wouldn't have it any other way," Sawatzky says.

When the fun is over, nobody worries about the score, knowing they just enjoyed some priceless family time.
