7 Hurt In Crash On Elmhurst Road In Des Plaines

UPDATED 12/29/11 12:11 p.m.

DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) — Seven people were injured early Thursday in a crash on busy Elmhurst Road in Des Plaines.

Ice was blamed for the pin-in crash on the Elmhurst Road bridge over the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90).

Nine ambulances were sent to the scene, and seven people were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately learned.

Fire crews had to use the jaws of life to extract some accident victims.

“We did do some extrication, and it did require some patients to be cut out of the vehicles,” said Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax.

Elmhurst Road was closed between Oakton Street and I-90 following the crash.

The crash was one of many blamed on slick, icy roads early Thursday.
