The Perfect Sparkling Wines For Your New Year's Celebration
December 30, 2011 - CBS 2 News at 6AM
It may not seem like it with the balmy weather, but tomorrow (Saturday) is New Year's Eve.
And whether you're planning to gather everyone you know for a few rounds of Scattergories and Balderdash, or just have a quiet gathering with a few old friends, you're going to need something when the time comes to pop the cork at midnight.
Joining us on the CBS 2 Morning News this morning was wine expert Ron Breitstein, from Tenzing Wine and Spirits. He had the following suggestions for some fine and affordable sparkling wines:
1. Fantinel Prosecco - $12
2. Sonim Cava Brut - $15
3. Chateau Moncontour Sparkling Vouvray - $16
4. Mirabelle Rose by Schramsberg - $23
5. Alfred Gratien Brut Classique - $50-60
And for your edification: Champagne only refers to sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France. If it's from anywhere else – even Champaign, Illinois – we just call it "sparkling wine."
