CHICAGO (STMW) – Playboy said Friday it had made the “difficult decision” to close the company’s headquarters at 680 N. Lake Shore Dr. and move the operations to Los Angeles on April 30.

One month ago, Playboy said it would move the bulk of its headquarters staff to Los Angeles, but keep some departments here.

A spokeswoman said Chicago “will always be connected to the [company’s] beginning.”

This is going to be in the headlines week after week here in Illinois. Companies with facilities, offices, plants in other states will be exitting as soon and as fast as they can to avoid the high income tax rate. Thats why I’m moving out of this place. Illinois isn’t the great place it likes to think it is as long as the government keeps putting “bandaids”on the problem instead of fixing it properly. You wouldn’t keep dumping money in a car that isn’t worth it, the only one benefitting is the auto mechanic. Why put money into the state’s hands when its only benefitting them.

“This is going to be in the headlines week after week here in Illinois….in order to avoid the high income tax rate” Since when does a company trying to avoid high taxes move from IL, top marginal income tax rate 5% to CA top marginal tax rate 10%. The ignorance around here is well to Bunckley “DISCUSTTING”. The facts are Playboy has been bleeding money for years largely because it supports Hugh Hefner and the Playboy mansion. You didn’t think he was paying for all those parties now did you? The income taxes in this state are on par for the region and only look high relative to the poverty stricken South and states without any actual people, ie the Dakotas. I do not like paying taxes anymore than the next guy but I’m aware of the options available to me and I’ll stick to the comfortable living available in this global city.

Highest cost of living? Not even close. You’re obviously one of those dumb Chicagoans who have never left this city and have never read a national paper. It’s funny how the people who complain about Chicago not having any jobs and being too expensive all have one major thing in common. They all lack a good education. You want to know how I can tell? Look at their writing on these blogs. Most of them can’t spell, lack common sense and can’t even put a simple sentence together. No wonder you idiots are broke and bitter.

I think it is funny that you complain about people who are “uneducated” while making deragatory remarks. I was born and raised in Chicago, and recently moved back to the city after a long absence. Everything these poster’s are saying is true. This city has turned into an overpriced DUMP. It looks TERRIBLE. I spent 25 years of my life here, and then 15 years gone. Coming back I can really see all the negative changes. It is NOT worth the high cost of living to live in a city that is filled with garbage and not taken care of. I have also visited the south on more than one occasion, and was impressed by how NICE the people are. They certainly didn’t seem to be living in poverty, and in face many southern cities are THRIVING. Your ignorance is laughable. Have you ever even been to the south? Do you not see the garbage all over this city? Are you blind too? Take a REAL look around you before you criticize others. This ignorant attitude is typical of many people in this city, and I now remember why I left in the first place. I am heading to Nashville in 2 weeks, and will be glad to go. This city is a shell of it’s former self, and the only people left are the ones who have not had the sense to get out.

Linda, you’re the blind one. Nashville is nothing but a bland, boring, uncultured dump. But if that’s the kind of city you enjoy then more power to you. Chicago is constantly ranked as one of the cleanest big cities in America so maybe it’s your neighborhood that’s dirty? It’s not my fault you lived in and continue to visit some ghetto in the city but there’s is a whole other city outside your poor little hood. It’s o.k because Chicago is not for everyone. It’s definitely not for slackers who have low self esteem and can’t compete in the real world. That’s what separate’s great cities from the average, bland and boring cities. In a competetive city like Chicago you have to work hard and compete to be successful so people who are weak, lazy and/or uneducated tend to leave because they can’t cut it here. You people fleeing Chicago stay away from the Ozarks. In Joplin, MO, we have a bunch of you types who live in “downtown lofts”. They’ve taken old downtown buildings and turning them into apartments. It’s an insult to our morals and values as Christians in the Bible Belt to have big-city types living in high-rise apartment towers in an area of the country where it is considered morally reprehensible. If you want to help restore America to its values and traditions, you could come to Joplin and force those people out of their downtown lofts and maybe shoot them if you want. No one around here would mind.
