GARY, Ind. (CBS) – A 2-year-old girl shot in the head over the weekend in an apparent accident has died, police officials said Monday.
The toddler was injured Saturday at a residence in the 2500 block of West 9th Avenue while playing with an older child and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, Gary police said earlier.
Police spokeswoman Gabrielle King said the child died at 11 a.m. Monday.
An autopsy was planned, and police were still trying to determine who owned the gun and how it ended up in the house, King said. No one was in custody.
