(WSCR) As the Bears begin the process of finding a new general manager, president Ted Phillips will ultimately be leading the search.

The news that Phillips will be conducting the search wasn’t met kindly by one Bears Hall of Famer.

“We’ve got Hellen Keller searching for the exit here,” Dan Hampton told The Mully and Hanley Show on Tuesday. “Ted Phillips is the one that had to hire a search firm to go out and bring us the treasure that Jerry Angelo was. Now, who is making the same decision? It’s Ted Phillips.”

The Bears are in the process of interviewing Chiefs scouting director Phil Emery, Patriots personnel director Jason Licht, Chargers personnel director Jimmy Raye and Giants scouting director Marc Ross.

Hampton did admit, however, that some of the candidates come from organizations that draft well — something the Bears have struggled with in recent years.

“I’m glad to see they have selected candidates from some of the franchises that have done a decent job,” Hampton said. “They are some teams that have been to identify collegiate talent that become big-time starts.”

Brainiack

Jerry Angelo shouldn’t have been hired, he should’ve hired Rick Reiprish – who went to the Saints and promptly put their roster in Super Bowl form. Look at their roster, the other candidates don’t compare to Reiprish’s skills.
