DiNardo: We Can't Let This Happen Again

(WSCR) With all the horror that surrounds the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, one college football expert thinks there are many lessons to be learned.

"The message is as a culture, we can't let this happen again," Gerry DiNardo of the Big Ten Network told The Mully and Hanley Show. "The message is we don't want to put people in power for that long. The message is a coach should never be stronger than anyone else. The message is our children are first before anything else. The message is just because I report something to a supporior, that doesn't mean I'm done. I have to make sure action is taken -- even if it costs me my job. There are a million messages, and maybe in this horrid story, that's the good that comes from this."

DiNardo said he's struggling to come to terms with the passing of longtime friend Joe Paterno.

"I've been friends with this guy for a long, long time," DiNardo said. "It was hard to see it end this way. I know that the sex-abuse case is so much more important than all the football that we ever talk about. You struggle, you go back and forth.

"What the hell do we all do? You're conflicted. It's very complex. I think we have to respect each other's opinion and move on."
