CHICAGO (STMW) - A woman who had broken into a South Side apartment she had previously been evicted from scratched and bit a female officer early Saturday as the officer and her partner were trying to arrest her.

The 46-year-old woman was eventually arrested and taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, police said.

About 4 a.m., someone saw a woman attempting to break into a boarded-up first-floor apartment in a building in the 1600 block of West 81st Street, and called police, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. The woman, who had previously been evicted from the apartment, was using a hammer to pry apart the wood used to board up the entrance to the apartment, police said.

Uniformed officers from the Gresham District responded and found the front door to the apartment open and damaged, Mirabelli said. The two officers were confronted by the woman, who was combative, according to police.

“She challenged the officers to a fight, and refused to leave,” Mirabelli said. “At one point she threw a liquid from a mop bucket at the officers,” he noted.

As the officers tried to arrest the woman, she fought with them, biting and scratching the female officer. The officer suffered bites to her chest and hand and scratches to the face and chest. The 31-year-old officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, Mirabelli said.

Leroy, you are so funny. If the psychiatric evaluation doesn’t work, maybe a rabies shot and confinement at the local Animal Control will.

Roberta that is a wonderful idea except that I would hate to subject those innocent dogs and cats to her presence.

That’s two Chicago Cops bitten in two days. The plan is working! Sugar coat the police department and crime will go away. By Nato/G8 time, the Department should all be sugarcoated and the protesters will love it.
