Gas Prices Hit Record High For January

CHICAGO (CBS) — January is typically a month when gas prices are low, but that is not the case this year.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Regine Schlesinger reports, AAA says pump prices for January hit their highest level ever for this time of year.

In Cook County, a gallon of regular gas averages $3.69 – 18 cents higher than last month, and up 32 cents from a year ago.

The average of $3.37 in northern Indiana also represents the highest ever for January. says the highest price Monday morning was at the Mobil station at 3159 W. Chicago Ave. on the city’s West Side, where gas was going for $4.09 per gallon.

AAA spokeswoman Beth Mosher attributes the spike to high oil prices, and says it would have been even worse if not for sluggish demand.

With Persian Gulf tensions ratcheting up over Iranian nuclear ambitions, oil prices are not likely to come down anytime soon.

The whole “high oil prices” is a bunch of BS. When gas prices hit record highs in 2008 oil was selling for about $155/barrel. It is now at about $100. Gas should be about $2.80 if it weren’t for good old greed.

You are exactly right, my friend!

You ain’t seen nothing yet. Obama has mandated that his EPA will enforce legislation that will drive up energy prices even more. Obama stated in 2008 that high gas prices were the only way to force America to embrace his green energy. So if you have no problem paying $5/gallon per gas, by all means re-elect him…….

agreed only the beginning march toward $5 a gallon here soon as bill OIL pushes their agenda via our elected (that is oil financed) public officials. Oil refinery workers contract is up also which will squeeze supply and provide another excuse to raise prices

you have to remember that illinois is 5th in the nation as far as fuel tax goes & on top of that you pay the illinois sales tax after all the other taxes have been added on the product…. the only way you can beat this is purchase out of cook county & then if at all possible out of state.

Our economy would be much better off if we didn’t have to tax wealthy, job creators and “distribute their wealth” to poor, lazy black people and ILLEGALS.

It’s time we took our country back!!!
