(CBS) Bears head coach Lovie Smith will meet with former Buccaneers quarterback coach Alex Van Pelt Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Smith is looking for a quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator to aid new offensive coordinator Mike Tice.
Van Pelt was with the Buccaneers the last two seasons before being let go with the entire coaching staff after this season. The former NFL quarterback enjoyed an 11-year playing career. He is credited with helping develop Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman in Tampa.
According to the report, Van Pelt is still living in Tampa and Smith is currently vacationing in the area. He was not at Phil Emery’s introductory press conference at Halas Hall Monday.
