CHICAGO (CBS) – We’ve been hearing it all night: the winner of the GOP primary election in Florida is the winner is Mitt Romney.

Or so it is in the news, but I don’t buy it. I believe the winner is money; $18 million dollars that a group called Restore Our Future has slipped secretly into the Romney campaign, 20 times what’s been slipped secretly into Newt Gingrich’s campaign.

The secret “Super PACs” (political action committees) are spending obscene amounts of money on the primaries. In six weeks for Romney, an average $100,000 a day, every day has been spent by the pro-Romney PAC.

Just last week in Florida, it spent $150,000 a day, without one word about where the money’s coming from. We don’t know who the donors are, or what they might be expecting in return for supporting Romney.

But one thing fair to suspect is that – in the politics of elections – money and secrecy together are up to no good.

Walter comments about the money being spent on the republicans. How about commenting the Billion Dollars that Obama is supposed to have when the real race starts. Remember when he ran originally how he was not accepting any large donations. How much is he getting from everyone of the attendees to his dinners? Walter you are correct these races are won based upon money not what is good for the country.

Seems like you fail to report the “entire” story. Wish that the media would do so, but why don’t you report how much our “President” racked up on his last visit to Chicago….not to mention all of the “special interest” groups that have poured $$$ into his campaign….I always thought you gave a “fair” report…but on this one…you lost my respect…

Republicans are taking in so much money “without one word about where the money’s coming from. We don’t know who the donors are, or what they might be expecting in return for supporting Romney.”
THAT is the difference! Obama’s support is known and nothing is expected in return .
All the more reason to end Citizens United. Let’s make it fair, end corporate money in politics.

The American political system has become a joke, the so called elected officials democrats and republicans make me sick!

I am seriously not the only one who feels this way am I? I would like to see George Washington’s reaction if he could see what this country has morphed in to. He would probably lead a revolt and wage war against the evil corrupt empires.
