Freight Train Derailment Halts Milwaukee District-West Metra Trains

UPDATED 02/03/12 2:40 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) — A freight train derailment on the city’s West Side shut down the Milwaukee District-West Metra line during the morning rush.

Metra posted a notice on its Web site at 8:54 a.m. that all tracks are blocked from a freight train derailment on the tracks between the Grand/Cicero and Hanson Park Metra stations.

When trains were not moving, Metra has advised commuters to find alternate transportation through the area.

Trains were cleared to move again shortly after 10 a.m., but delays averaged 20 to 40 minutes.

The Milwaukee District-West Line runs between Elgin and Chicago’s Union Station.

    It’s a good thing this wasn’t high-speed rail.

HSR is the latest federal boondoggle. The purpose of HSR is to transfer money to political contributors and constituents.

HSR is as much of a scam as are ethanol subsidies. Remember when ethanol from corn was going to save the environment? It turns out that producing ethanol consumes about as much petroleum as it saves, plus it yields lower gas mileage. And we’ve given many billions to political contributors. HSR is the same thing – it is not needed.
