CHICAGO (STMW) – A young man is dead after being beaten and shot in the Little Village neighborhood early Saturday on the Southwest Side.

The male was shot about 3:35 a.m. in the 2300 block of South Albany Avenue and later died from his injuries, police said.

Sources said a group of people got out of a mini van and a possible gang fight ensued, during which time the man, believed to be in his late-teens or early-20s, was beaten and shot.

Police added the attack might have been a robbery.

A Saturday autopsy determined the man, identified as Raymond Jerz, Jr., died from multiple gunshot wounds and the death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating, but nobody is in custody.

There are to many people getting killed these days by ruthless people, I know a lot of people blame the guns, but it is not the guns doing the killing it is the crazy loons doing it, the gun is only the tool of choice. People have rights to defend them selves and Illinois law is not higher than the Constitution.

    a possible gang fight ensued,

They make this sound as if there were 2 gangs involved here. It sounds to me as a gang on one individual isn’t a gang fight.

This was a good young man, We worked together. I feel that if it took not only to beat him up mind you he is a very small guy then to shoot him multiple times seems to me either a set up or mistaken identity. With all the video’s in chicago this cannot be that hard to solve. RIP friend you will be dearly missed.

He was never a gang member he was a DJ they are sadly mistaken.

A gang gets out, beats you up and kills you, and they say you got into a gang fight this is out outrageous

It wasn’t enough to rob him. To beat him. To shoot him once, twice, three times.

    Why?

Why couldn’t they have just robbed him?

Why did they have to shoot him 3 times? Why?

Why did he have to die from trusting strangers?

And now he’s gone and his family, his friends are all devastated.

    Why?

I am wondering why they haven’t caught them yet since they have cameras on every corner in the city. Mini van speeds away and its not caught on a tape anywhere in the city? What are the camera’s there for? Maybe if they devoted a little time into who did it and who owned the van.
