Whitlock Apologizes For Racial Tweet

(WSCR) Shortly after Jeremy Lin’s 38-point performance Friday night against the Lakers, one columnist sent out a tweet poking fun at the Chinese-American ball player.

FOX Sports columnist Jason Whitlock tweeted, “Some lucky lady in NYC is going to feel a couple of inches of pain tonight.”

After a storm of criticism, Whitlock released a statement apologizing for the tweet. Here’s an excerpt:

I then gave in to another part of my personality — my immature, sophomoric, comedic nature. It’s been with me since birth, a gift from my mother and honed as a child listening to my godmother’s Richard Pryor albums. I still want to be a standup comedian.

The couple-inches-of-pain tweet overshadowed my sincere celebration of Lin’s performance and the irony that the stereotype applies to pot-bellied, overweight male sports writers, too. As the Asian American Journalist Association pointed out, I debased a feel-good sports moment. For that, I’m truly sorry.

“Shortly after Jeremy Lin’s 38-point performance Friday night against the Celtics…”

Who the hell wrote this article? Lin’s 38 points on Friday were scored against the Lakers. The Knicks played the Lakers this past Friday night. Not the Celtics. Come on, is it that hard to check a fact? Do you guys even watch sports? It was three days ago. Get a real journalist, do some proof-reading, or hire me to start writing for you. Have a wonderful day.

      Hey Jon,

I wrote this article. I had my games mixed up and made a mistake. It has since been corrected.

Thanks for bringing the error to our attention.

Just keeping you on your toes. I apologize if I came off as harsh in my original post. It’s been a rough Monday morning/afternoon. Mondays are no fun.

Whitlock has always been a moron. His mere existence is offensive to me, let alone anything he might write, tweet, or comment on.

  • Shawn

Whitlock is one of the worst sports writers out there. He also proved himself to be a huge hypocrite as well with that tweet. I don’t know why Fox S[orts wants to be associated with that guy. He is awful.

  • Matt

If this guy were white, he’d no longer have a job. It’s that simple.

    • Jack

You’re right. There are too many double standards for blacks. Look at pfleger for instance.

I’ll see your 2 inches and raise you 8 inches. I win

Even if Whitlock is an idiot I can’t believe he doesn’t realize the backlash before he hits send on that comment. I mean really? His thought proccess really amazes me
