Man Injured In Burning Car In Grand Crossing

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was seriously injured when his car caught fire in the Grand Crossing neighborhood Wednesday night.

Police and fire crews came to the 7800 block of South Kenwood Avenue around 9:30 p.m., and found a car on fire.

The 43-year-old man inside was trapped on the passenger side of the vehicle, and crews were able to pull him out to safety, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

He suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, according to Fire Media Affairs.

Police think the car's engine may have caught fire, although the official cause has not yet been determined, Greer said.
