Gas Prices Well Above $4 At Some Chicago Stations
CHICAGO (CBS) -- This week's spike in crude oil prices is catching up to Chicago area drivers, with prices at the pump suddenly soaring about 20 cents a gallon to an average of $3.74.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, at one Lincolnwood gas station overnight, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded jumped from $3.52 to $3.75.
ChicagoGasPrices.com says the cost of gasoline in the Chicago area as of midmorning Thursday ranged from $3.34 at the Sam's Club at 7430 Woodward Ave. in Woodridge, to $4.11 at the Mobil station at 1106 W. Fullerton Ave. near DePaul University.
But if you think that's high, just imagine the sticker shock at a station in Orlando, Fla., which is charging $5.89 a gallon. One man drove in, and drove right back out again.
"I just went to pump it, and I saw the price, and I'm not going to get it here," he said.
The price of a barrel of crude oil now hovers around $106, but experts warn that figure could rise quickly and sharply if tensions with Iran escalate.
