Sears Holdings To Close 5 Illinois Stores

CHICAGO (CBS) — Sears Holdings now says it’s closing five stores in Illinois after getting hefty tax breaks from the state to keep its corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates.

The stores to be shuttered are a Sears in Alton, a Sears Grand/Essentials in McHenry and three K-Marts — in Oak Lawn, Zion and Peru.

The closings are part of a bigger plan to trim losses and raise cash following poor holiday sales.

Sears has more than 4,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada.

If Quinn gave them a few more tax breaks they may have only closed 3 stores here! What a moron!

When Sears stopped selling ammo and guns and started supporting anti gun groups they cut their own throat fuk em. I go out of my way to avoid these stores that support anti gun groups, that includes walmart too. They had their day now they sold out and are dying they can thank Daley for that.

This is typical behavior from Sears. I stopped trading with them because of their caveman like way of doing business. Still, they do employ lots of Illinois people and that makes it hard for politicians to figure out what to do. Their main concern is to be re-elected so that their power and influence can continue to build…particularly in Illinois. Maybe it is time for 4 year term limits. That will cramp their style as well as the lobbyists influence on them. Fat chance of THAT ever making it to the ballot.

Hey guy with two first names: I’ve been banging the drum for TERM LIMITS OF ONE for years on these blogs. We, the voters need to make it happen. Anyone who votes to re-elect this guy is an idiot or a crook!

Tom. While this idea makes a lot of sense, remember we still pay for these people when their terms are over with pensions, medical insurance and other perks. We need to get rid of lobbyists and put our elected “representatives” on Social Security and take away their perks. The one big disadvantage to a one term limit is that they can do a lot of damage in one term because they know they can’t be reelected. Check out the 28th Amendment; it makes a lot of sense.
