Average Chicago Gas Price Up To $3.84

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Another week has brought another hike in gas prices for the Chicago area.

As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, Trilby Lundberg of the Lundberg Survey says prices are rising all over the country.

"The average price of regular-grade is now up to $3.69 per gallon," she said. "It's up 18 cents over the past two weeks."

ChicagoGasPrices.com shows the Chicago area average around $3.84, with many gas stations in the city now charging anywhere from 10 to 20 cents above $4.

The lowest prices Monday morning were both found in the western suburbs, at the Sam's Club at 141 W. North Ave. in Northlake, and at the Costco on the former Kiddieland site, at 8400 W. North Ave. in Melrose Park.

But oil analyst Tom Kloza doesn't think we will hit the worst case scenario that some experts expect.

"I don't think we're going to see $5 a gallon, but I think we're probably going to see $4 in a lot of places, oh, maybe by the first of May or so," he said.

Prices normally rise in advance of the summer driving season, and with no end in sight to the confrontation with Iran, there is little hope of a significant price drop anytime soon.
