Bosio On Cubs' New Analytics: 'It's Like We're Cheating'

(WSCR) The term 'new Cubs way' has become synonymous with the new regime in place at Wrigley Field.

Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod have teamed up in Chicago to completely change the culture of the Cubs. One of those changes has been the further use of video and technical analytics in scouting other teams and players.

"We're combining our bat system, which is literally a scouting system that we have," Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio told The Mully and Hanley Show. "Dale (Sveum) and I always say, 'It's like cheating.' It lays out the plan for you. It'll cater to the pitcher in certain counts with swing tendencies. There's one thing in life that we all have and that is tendencies. We just have to find those tendencies of the other players, as well as our own."

Bosio also said the pitching staff need to have a change of attitude.

"I just said, 'Listen, we're going to pound the living you know what out of everyone inside. If we hit five guys, I really don't care.' We're pitching in," Bosio said. "We're pitching in hard. We're going above the belt. We're going to open up the plate so your fastballs away are even better. ... I want the fear of God in these hitters. We're going to have command in there. If the hitters don't move and they get hit, that's just going to happen. We're going to be aggressive. I want them to be fearless and confident. Cocky? I don't mind that either. I think there is a fine line, but I think all of them can go together. It's a good foundation for success for this entire organization."
