CHICAGO (CBS) — Police have issued a community alert about a rash of robberies on the city’s South Side.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya reports, police have noted an increase in robberies of people on the street in the Washington Park, Hyde Park and Bronzeville neighborhoods.

The robbers have forcibly taken property from people as the victims were walking down the street, or getting into or out of their cars.

The community alert makes specific mention of four strong-arm robberies this past Tuesday and Wednesday. The robberies occurred at 7:05 p.m. in the 300 block of East 51st Street; about 8:20 p.m. in the 5500 block of South Blackstone Avenue around 4:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of South State Street; and around 9 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.

There is no useful or consistent description of the robbers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Central Area police detectives at (312) 747-8382.

“There is no useful or consistent description of the robbers”, this is a shame. Aren’t there police cameras that have recordings they can view?

  • g-man

If they were running away fast from the scene those speeding cameras would have got them

“There is no useful or consistent description of the robbers.”

Do you really want us to believe the victims didn’t describe the people who robbed them? Were all the victims blind?

  • chiseled v

A group of 4 – 6 youths approximately 5’5″ – 6’3″ some wearing hats and jackets. I can’t tell you the race because it would be discriminatory and politically incorrect. sorry.
