Check out the hit Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall put on Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek.

Voracek got stitches in his lip, and the Flyers say he will be re-evaluated today.

    It’s a head shot, so it’s probably a suspension, although it’s not much different than the hit on Letang a week ago. The player hit in both instances had his head down. The only difference is that Letang was hit on the shoulder and Voracek ended up being hit in the head. Players need to have their heads up. If Voracek’s head is up, there’s no question about this hit. It’s a clean hit five years ago. I personally think it’s a good hit, but they will suspend him because Voracek had his head down. I highly doubt Kronwall targeted the head, but it won’t matter to Shanahan.

    The NHL has a fine line to walk. They have to protect players from concussions. But the game will then have less hitting. Let’s face it, the NHL wants the game to be more open anyway. With increasing suspensions and concussions, the league will drift even more into this territory. Old school fans won’t like it. But this league has been watering itself down now for a decade.
