Spring Break Getaway Deals Are Still Out There

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The spring break itch is back and it's not too late to still book that getaway.

CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker found some great last-minute bargains up for grabs.

The Alaya family vacation to Miami has been in the works for months. A watchful eye and early planning helped them snag their dream trip, but if you haven't booked yet don't be discouraged.

Travel agent Maria Hudson Thomas says you can still find a great price if you book package deals at top destinations like Orlando, Las Vegas and Phoenix.

"Book your flight, hotel, car together, you're going to save," she says.

Disney World is the number one spring break destination. For $384 per person, you could get three nights and airfare at the Orlando Metropolitan Resort the last week in March.

During April, for $336, Las Vegas -- a top destination for many Chicago college students -- is offering three days, including flight, at the Excalibur hotel.

Baseball fans can book a flight and hotel in phoenix for $519 a person to catch the last of spring training. Or, sports enthusiasts can visit the Olympic Trials in Portland for a $490 vacation package.

The best deals right now are on cruises. The industry has been forced to drop prices by 11 percent because of negative news the past two months. Excluding flight, Carnival is offering a four-night cruise for $239 per person.

If you're open to anything or any place, websites like Groupon Getaways, Living Social Escapes or new travel sites like Yuupon all offer domestic and international vacation packages. The discounts are deep, but the offer usually only last a couple days.

Eric Stinson and his family usually drive to their spring break location. For them looking for hotel deals is important. To that end, a new app, "Hotels by Orbitz," can help you find hotels around the world for up to half off.

Some other money saving tips: Look for promotional codes for online booking, which can save you up 15 percent. Check out convention and tourism websites; sometimes, they offer coupons for local businesses.

Finally, ask about discounted tickets during evening hours at major attractions. Often, they'll offer them at half price.
