Bruce Weber Fired

By Adam Hoge –

INDIANAPOLIS (CBS) — After nine seasons as Illinois basketball head coach, Bruce Weber was fired Friday morning.

Illini athletic director Mike Thomas made the move official during a Friday press conference.

The move has been expected for nearly a month since 670 The Score reported that key boosters made it clear to  Thomas that Weber’s $3.9 million buyout should not stand in the way of making a change.

At one point this season, the Illini were in first place in the Big Ten at 4-1. They finished the season by losing 12 of their last 14 games, however, including Thursday’s second-half collapse against Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Weber leaves Illinois after nine years with a 210-101 overall record and an 89-66 Big Ten record

That’s too bad. I always liked coach Bruce. Kinda quirky in his mannerisms. But hey, how about that Victoria Hendricks??? Please keep on reporting any story that allows WSCR to post a picture of that little firecracker!

If It was my money, I’d have let him go through his contract.

Such a promising start to the season – such a train wreck at the end! I kind of feel sorry for Bruce. I think things could have been a lot different if Leonard would only have stayed under the basket on offense instead of trying to be a 7′ 1″ 3 point shooting point guard. When he was underneath, the offense ticked – when he was playing around outside everything fell apart. I’m not trying to pin all of the failures of the season on one player but what the hey! Is Leonard ready got the NBA? No way! He has to learn how to be a center first unless there are any teams out there looking for a 7′ 1″ point guard that can’t shoot the 3!
