CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Chicago Wolves failed to light the lamp and were shutout 4-0 by the Charlotte Checkers Sunday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

Checkers goaltender Mike Murphy (16-11-2) stopped all 22 of the Wolves shots as he snapped Chicago’s (33-23-2-3) three-game winnings streak.

With the loss, the Wolves relinquished first place in the Midwest Division to the Checkers. Charlotte, which holds one game in hand, leads Chicago by one point for the division lead.

Charlotte (32-20-3-5) opened scoring at 9:16 of the second period. Center Zach Boychuk’s shot from the near point redirected off the body of Checkers left wing Nicolas Blanchard and past Chicago goaltender Eddie Lack.

The Checkers doubled their lead while on the power play less than three minutes later. Right wing Matthew Pistilli’s shot from the top of the far circle was kicked away by Lack, but the rebound ended up in the slot and center Zac Dalpe skated in and hammered home the puck at 12:03.

Charlotte grabbed a 3-0 lead when defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti skated into the Wolves zone on a two-on-one break and snapped a quick shot from the near circle over the stick of Lack at 9:04 of the third period. Center Brett Sutter closed out scoring with an empty-net tally at 17:58 of the final frame.

Lack (17-16-3) thwarted 42 of 45 shots.

The Wolves host the Peoria Rivermen in an Illinois Lottery Cup contest at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Allstate Arena.
