(WSCR) With Bruce Weber’s Illinois tenure in the rear-view mirror, multiple names have begun to surface as a potential replacement.

One of those names has been Duke assistant Chris Collins, who said he would listen if the Illinois job presented itself.

“I always pick up the phone,” Collins told the Tribune. “I’ve always been taught you never shut down any opportunities.”

The 37-year-old longtime assistant coach is from Northbrook, Ill., so a trip home might be welcomed.

“Chicago is my home, I love Illinois, I have a lot of friends there,” he said. “Certainly a program like (Illinois) is a great program and has had a lot of success, has a lot of potential. There’s no question I would definitely listen.”

Illinois, do NOT call Chris Collins.

Jay I disagree with You and Chris Collins is Dan’s #1 choice to become the next Illinois Fighting Illini Mens Basketball Head Coach to suceed Bruce Weber.

      • Jay

Illinois men’s basketball coach does not need a coach with no prior head coaching experience. Plus, we know nothing about his ability to recruit, especially being able to recruit the top talent out to the city of Chicago.

Jim Phillips call Chris Collins. Last I looked NU was closer to Chicago than Illinois in Champaign. Recruiting from a campus on Lake Michigan certainly has its pluses.
