Albany Park Man Dies A Day After Being Punched In Fight

CHICAGO (STMW) — A man died Monday after being punched during a fight early Sunday in the North Side Albany Park neighborhood.

Celestino Nuevo, 58, of the 4900 block of North Kimball Avenue, was pronounced dead at 9:35 a.m. at Swedish Covenant Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

About 2 a.m. Sunday, Nuevo became involved in a fight with a male in the 3500 block of West Lawrence Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. He was punched in the face and fell onto the sidewalk.

He suffered bone fractures to his face and swelling of the brain, Zala said.

Hopefully this man wasn’t punched by a Dailey.

You might think this to be funny but in all reality, this man was a family friend of ours. He leaves behind kids in our home country. So senseless, this might be a joke to you but I would like to see it to happen to someone you care about and I would want to see if you would still be joking. The man was just with a friend outside of the bar, when he saw a puerto rican man walking and talking to himself, Celestino just asks whats wrong with you man, and the guy takes a swing! This was my uncles best friend. RIP Celestino.

thank u brian for defending my dad.. to those who might think that this is a joke, have a second thought.. i hope and pray that this wont happen to you.. we seek for justice, the cause of his death is really unacceptable, I pity the man who did this to him.. if you got the balls to show up and surrender yourself, do it!

No problem, I visited him on Sunday at the hospital and I was just so sadden, this bothered me so much. I lost my Lola just a month ago, he was there for my Tito Ramon, he kept him sane, and now he lost his best friend too. I prayed for him at his hospital bed, he looked like he was just sleeping and snoring, no ventilators, he was a fighter. I cannot imagine what you and your family is going through, my deepest condolences to you and your family may he rest in paradise. I talked to my teacher who is a police man for the Chicago PD, he said they will find the guy you just have to give them time. NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE! I can’t believe animals like that still walk the streets, they belong behind bars or in mental houses. Your father was a good man, may he be at peace!
