February 2, 2005 - Sammy Sosa traded from the Cubs

After 13 season on the north side of Chicago, Sammy Sosa's time with the Cubs had ended.

On February 2, 2005, the Cubs agreed to trade Sosa to the Orioles in exchange for second baseman Jerry Hairston Jr. and two minor leaguers -- second baseman Mike Fontenot and right-handed pitcher Dave Crouthers.

"I gave Chicago everything that I have," Sosa said after the trade. "It was a beautiful experience for my wife and family," he said. "I had a great time in Chicago, but you have to move on. This is my new house, and I love it."

The Cubs agreed to pay $16.15 million of the $25 million Sosa was still owed under his $72 million, four-year agreement. Baltimore was responsible for just $8.85 million of Sosa's $17 million salary.

Over 13 seasons with the Cubs, Sosa hit .284 with 545 and 1,414 RBIs.

He went on to play one season in Baltimore where he hit .221 with 14 home runs and 45 RBIs. Sosa later signed a one-year deal with the Rangers in 2007, where he hit .252 with 21 home runs and 92 RBIs before retiring.
