Temperatures To Hit 70s, Drop As Storms Move In

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The temperature is expected to hit a balmy 77 degrees in Chicago Tuesday, but will drop down as low as the 50s as the afternoon goes on and a cold front passes through.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says as of 11:20 a.m., the temperature was 62 at Midway International Airport and 59 at O'Hare, but as warm as 74 in Kankakee and as cool as 53 in Waukegan.

A mix of sun and clouds predominated across the area, but more cloud cover is expected to sweep in from the west, as showers and thunderstorms come in for the second half of the day. The high is expected to top out in the mid- to upper 70s before quickly dropping off as low as the 50s when the storms pass through.

The chance of rain is estimated at 30 percent.

Once the storms clear out, a dry ridge of high pressure will hover over the area for the coming several days, keeping conditions dry and cool. The high for Wednesday is 54, and for the Cubs' home opener Thursday 52.
